Epiphany Reflection
“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 (NIV)
Recently, our two little children began their school life. The occasion brought great joy and excitement to the whole family. They were showered with gifts and blessings by their grandparents and great-grandparents. While everyone celebrated this milestone in their life, my wife and I were reminded of certain ‘treasured up’ memories from the past. We were reminded of our plea to God for children when we couldn’t have kids for over seven years. We were also reminded of God’s promises to us, and our vows to God. Each milestone in the lives of our children elicits memories of God’s love for us.
Scripture speaks of two occasions when Mary ‘treasured up’ memories about Jesus- Luke 2:19 & Luke 2:51. As the people around her celebrated the birth and life of Jesus, Mary was reminded of who this child was to be- the Savior of the world. May this season of Epiphany elicit ‘treasured up’ memories from our past. May it draw us closer to God in awe and wonder of his amazing love for us, and for all humanity.
